Some older electrical panels are known hazards that should be replaced:
- Zinsco panels often have safety issues, and some insurance companies refuse to insure homes that have them.
- Federal Pacific Electric (FPE) panels are not permitted in new installations due to a high risk of overheating and malfunction.
- Pushmatic panels are now obsolete. The breakers are well past their 40-year service life, so they should be replaced.
- Some Challenger electrical panel models are prone to overheating and breaker malfunctions.
